Aymeric Laporte is recovering from injury and will not feature against Liverpool at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. The Spanish international underwent surgery on a knee injury during the summer, and isn't expected to return until September. Phil Foden, John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan are all available after missing the club's pre-season tour of the United States.

“Laporte is injured. He had surgery after last season,” Guardiola confirmed at Friday's press conference.

“He played the last three games with an injury, an incredible effort but he could not continue to do that.

“He has done incredibly well but we need to be careful because it is the knee.

“I think he will be out in August and maybe in September he will start to be with us. We will see.”

City lost their last game against Liverpool 3-2, with Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva netting for the Blues. Overall City have won 50 of the 191 games played against the Reds, with 50 draws and 91 defeats.
