Manchester City Reveal New Home Kit Inspired by the Iconic 2011-12 Season

Manchester City's new home kit design was leaked some months ago, but it has now been officially revealed with the players showing off how it looks in photos.

Manchester City has unveiled their new home kit for the 2021-22 season, which pays homage to the ten-year-old version. The new home jersey for the Premier League winners has been designed to improve athletic performance by allowing greater breathability while also keeping Pep Guardiola's side dry and comfortable.

However, the standout feature of the shirt and one that's instantly recognisable to most Manchester City fans is its resemblance to the kit worn by City in 2011-12. This season has a special place in the hearts and minds of all City fans as it was where they won a historic title on the last day. This title race between Manchester City and Manchester United was one of the most exciting ever, and it would become the first of five Premier League titles won over the next decade.

This brand new Puma kit is a recent listing on the Manchester City official store and can also be purchased online and in-person at retail sports shops. The kit is definitely a hit with fans already, and the fact that it pays homage to such an important part of the club's history is sure to see it flying off the shelves in record numbers.

City's Historic Title Win

Manchester City won the 2011-12 season in dramatic fashion, needing a last gasp goal from Sergio Aguero to put them ahead of their rivals on goal difference. This new kit not only marks ten years since that special day, but it's also City's first season without Aguero since he joined the club back in the summer of 2011. Aguero would go on to become one of the most important players in City's history, scoring 184 goals in 275 appearances.

While this season will no doubt be bittersweet for City fans due to Aguero no longer being with the club, the kit will help fans to relive the memories of that special season. The 2011-12 title was sealed thanks to Sergio Aguero scoring in the fourth minute of added time to complete a 3-2 victory over QPR on the final day, ensuring the club's first trophy in 44 years.

Roberto Mancini's side were ahead of Manchester United on goal difference going into the last game of the season, and it took Aguero's drilled effort at 93:20 to cement their place as England's top club that season. The goal was celebrated wildly by City fans in the Ethiad stadium and led to a new era for the club. Manchester City would go on to repeat this title win in 2013-14, 2017-18 and last season, where they finished twelve points ahead of their local rivals.

Manchester City's 2021-22 Season

Without the talents of Sergio Aguero, Manchester City may struggle to score as many goals. Although he didn't feature as prominently last season, the Argentine striker still managed four goals and an assist in the league as well as two goals in the Champions League. It's unclear yet whether Pep Guardiola is bringing in some new talent, but there have been a lot of rumours about centre forwards this summer.

City fans will no doubt be hoping to see some new faces in their new home kit when they go to Tottenham on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, and there have been links to Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, among others. Recently, however, Pep Guardiola stated that the club is unlikely to be able to spend big this season due to the financial restraints of the coronavirus epidemic.
