A look at potential midfield transfer targets this sumer
Well, it’s that time of year again. The season has only just come to a close and we’re already thinking about August. And let’s face it, it can’t come quick enough. Of course, we’ve have already had plenty to keep us occupied in the two weeks since the Southampton win. Vieira could be Newcastle bound. Yaya is staying. And we’ve been linked with every player worth £20million-plus. No change there then.
There’s no doubt Manuel will strengthen however. Lampard has gone and Fernando and Fernandinho have had tough seasons this term and if there’s one man City are crying out for it’s one Paul Pogba. But it’ll be a tough task to land the 22-year-old former Red, and they’ll certainly have their eyes on at least one of these midfield maestros to conduct City’s midfield next term…
Paul Pogba
Naturally Pogba is the number one target of every top team in Europe but few have the financial clout to compete with us. He’s the perfect man to take over the reins from 32-year-old Toure. His pace, power, and confidence to carry the ball is like Yaya Mark II, and he looks dead-set on a move away from Champions League finalists Juventus. The club are currently second favourites for the title next season with bet365 mobile pricing them at 4/1, but a game-changer like Pogba joining the ranks would certainly see them edge plenty closer to Chelsea.
Kevin De Bruyne
Another player to not really do it in England is Kevin De Bruyne. He only made three appearances for Chelsea but is making a real name for himself with German Cup winners Wolfsburg. The Belgian capped off a fine season by producing some moments of real magic to defeat Dortmund 3-1 with De Bruyne being inspirational throughout. He’s bagged a hatful of goals this season and made 28 assists, that’s 10 more than Cesc Fabregas’ efforts this year.
Marco Verratti
There’s no doubt that Marco Veratti will become one of the world’s best midfielders, and at 22-years-old, he’ll be at the top for plenty of time too. Real Madrid are looking to tempt the Italian away from the Parc des Princes so City would have to bid big, but he’d certainly be worth it. A total opposite to the new breed of footballer, the midfielder shows plenty of aggression alongside his brilliant technical ability, and his performances in the Champions League have already proved he can do it at the top level too.
Marco Reus
With Jurgen Klopp on his way out, it’s likely Dortmund will get raided this summer and Marco Reus will be a key target for plenty of clubs. The attacking midfielder would be a great signing for City, with his versatility allowing him to be dominant in a number of advanced positions. He’d be the perfect ally for the likes of Silva, Nasri, and Aguero and would certainly boost the chances of silverware returning to the Etihad.
Koke
Let’s face it, City signing Koke would be worth it just for the chants on the terraces, but he’d also add a lot to the squad. The Spanish international is a key man for Diego Simeone’s ruthless Atletico Madrid side, and has been given a price-tag of around £40million. However, it will be tough to lure him away from his hometown, and the 23-year-old has even suggested he’ll still be plying his trade for the Rojiblancos next season.
