Defender may not return until Manchester derby
City captain Vincent Kompany could be out for up to four weeks, following a groin injury sustained in the Blues 4-0 win against Newcastle United.
The club initially hoped the injury was a minor one, and following the game Kompany tweeted "Team was great. I felt great. Injury is a blow after all the hard work. I'll be back to that level in no time. Thanks for all the support!"
However, the Belgian international is due to have a scan today to assess the extent of the injury, amidst fears he may miss the next three Premiership games.
A lengthy lay off is almost certain to see City in the market for a new centre half, with Martín Demichelis and Pepe continuing to be linked with moves to The Etihad Stadium.
