Puma Teams Up with AI for Manchester City's 2026/2027 Jersey

Most of us associate artificial intelligence (AI) with automated chatbots, and platforms such as ChatGPT. However, the presence of this cutting-edge technology is also being felt in the real world. One of the latest examples of how far AI has advanced can be seen in the new jerseys that Manchester City players will soon be wearing. Let's take a closer look at this unique campaign, and what it may signal for the larger digital community.

A Community-Driven Project

Unlike previous efforts that centred around a handful of graphic design specialists, Manchester City instead decided to obtain input directly from their fans with the help of a tool known as Puma AI. Puma AI is a type of generative artificial intelligence package that uses advanced algorithms to transform text (written) input into digital images. This provides an innovative means to develop now creations from scratch, and its user-friendly nature has already attracted countless football aficionados.

A Work in Progress

Readers will be interested to know that this campaign was first launched as far back as January 2025. At the time, fans were asked to submit their ideas for a new Manchester City kit. It was not long before Puma AI accrued more than 180,000 suggestions. The next step involved collating these ideas into a format that could be interpreted by the public. Once they were categorised, a shortlist of 10 designs was presented. Users voted anonymously on their favourite images.

While the final results are yet to be released, Man City fans were provided with a glimpse of what the future may have in store. A separate goalkeeper kit was released on 25 January 2025. It is said that these designs were at least partially inspired by players such as Rico Lewis, Stefan Ortega, and Ederson.

Crowdfunding to the Next Level?

This novel project provided fans with a very real means to connect with their team. So, we are left wondering if such an approach represents the tip of the proverbial iceberg. What are some other possible applications? The iGaming community may serve as an example.

It is already known that registering with a quality online casino in New Zealand offers several perks. Multi-faceted welcome bonus package, a collection of the latest slots titles, live dealer games, and flexible payment options are prime examples. However, what if the members themselves could exert an influence on metrics such as site design, and the promotions themselves? This would be an excellent way for casinos to build brand loyalty, and to ensure that players keep coming back for more. We might even witness a day when the so-called online casino "metaverse" comes into existence.

Either way, the recent collaboration between Manchester City and Puma AI has been highly successful. Could other professional sports follow this example? As artificial intelligence becomes even more interwoven into our daily lives, there is little doubt that its presence will be felt across numerous industries.
