Man City’s Revival? Analysing Current Form and Betting Trends

A single win in 13 matches. It wasn’t long ago that Man City were experiencing their most tumultuous form in almost two decades. Obituaries were being written. The future of Pep Guardiola was being questioned. Would the blue moon ever rise again?
Oh, how perceptions can change after a couple of matches.

After winning their last two matches, Man City are quickly climbing out of their slump. Okay, they weren’t at their sparkling best in those matches. Okay, the opposition wasn’t great in either match. Despite these points, the signs are a lot more positive than they were just a week ago.

To demonstrate this, the following guide will analyse current betting trends to see Man City’s chances of winning a trophy this season.

Premier League

This is a long shot, admittedly. Man City are currently sixth and eleven points behind Liverpool. The latter even has a game in hand. Arsenal are also still in the race – just. Yet despite these points, Man City are third favourites to lift the Premier League title for a fifth time in a row.

Their current odds sit at 25/1. As said, it’s a long shot. Liverpool are 2/9 in comparison, meaning the bookies have them virtually nailed on for the title. Although if Liverpool lose a couple of games here and there, and City go on one of their famous second half of the season runs, you never know…

FA Cup

Looking at odds offered by First.com UK bookmakers, there’s a consensus on the favourites for the FA Cup: Man City. That’s right. Liverpool are flying high. Arsenal are looking resilient and tough to beat. Chelsea play with freedom and attacking intent. However, Man City are being backed to win the cup this year.

You can currently get 5/1 on City to lift the trophy. In comparison, Liverpool are 6/1, Chelsea 7/1, and Arsenal 15/2. Both bookies and bettors are expecting City to at least get close to their best for a long cup run.

FIFA Club World Cup

The FIFA Club World Cup is planned to start on June 15. Right now, Man City are the slight favourites to win the newly expanded edition of the tournament. They’re 9/2, while Real Madrid are right next to them at 5/1.

Considering Guardiola has criticised FIFA on their stance about ‘full-strength’ squads needing to be used, there’s no guarantee City’s best players will take part. This makes it a bit of a surprise City are favourites. Then again, other clubs could take the same approach.

Champions League

It’s fair to say Man City’s Champions League run hasn’t been ideal. The club currently sits at a lowly 22nd in the table, winning just two out of six games. That means it’s the play-offs at best for City – although there’s still the risk of dropping out of the competition altogether if they finish 25th or below during the league phase.

Nevertheless, Man City are sixth favourites to win the entire competition. They sit around 7/1, putting them amongst Barcelona and Bayern Munich at similar odds. Only table-topping Liverpool, at 4/1, are clearly preferred by punters to City right now – no surprise based on their widely differing form in this season’s competition to date.
