Who will push us closest this season?

Who will push us closest this season?

Betway ambassador Robbie Keane has been talking on his latest blog about our main rivals for the Premier League this season and to be fair with the results so mixed for the teams at the top so far, who really knows?

The former Republic Of Ireland striker says Liverpool and Arsenal will push us close.  At the start of this campaign I don't think I would have agreed about Liverpool but certainly would have about Arsenal.  But not now, in fact, I'm not even sure how close we will push ourselves after the last result v Bournemouth - and yes, I am being tongue in cheek and no, I am not panicking ... or not yet!

Keane explained "Arsenal’s draw with Liverpool was a great game and I think both sides are going to challenge Manchester City for the title this season.”

“Even with Rodri out injured, I still think Man City have enough strength in depth to win go on and win the league, but I do think that Liverpool will push them. They have definitely been a surprise so far, because they have got a new manager and it usually takes a little bit of time to adapt, but Arne Slot is fitting in very well."

He also points to Liverpool having the bonus of Ryan Gravenberch finding his feet and impressing in the No6 position.  "He’s naturally a No. 8 with how he can carry the ball, but he’s fit in really well into that deeper role in their midfield. He’s been very, very impressive."

And for Arsenal, a team I doubt he has any love for having played at Spurs for so long, he says their main issue is the lack of discipline and too many red cards.

"They’ve had too many red cards, which probably could cost them and it certainly seems like it did against Bournemouth. If Saliba didn’t get sent off, would they lose that game? Probably not. I think they need to address that and I’m sure Mikel Arteta is doing that."

It is really interesting to see how the league isn't taking a conventional shape at the moment and it does make me wonder if there is a chance for some of the less fancied teams to push through, a bit like Leicester City did so famously in the 2015/16 season.  On paper, that team this time around I would have said could have been Aston Villa who are doing so well under Unai Emery, but they seem to be stumbling already.

Oh well, I guess we'll just have to endure yet another Premier League title then!
