Ex-England and Arsenal legend has been talking about the weekends 2-2 draw
As a key figure in the old George Graham defence, defence, defence, style of play (who can forget the ‘boring, boring, Arsenal’ chants back in the day?) it appears he was full of admiration for the way Arsenal tried to park the bus against us to get the victory.
Unfortunately for them, we were able to spoil their day!
Talking on the he Seaman Says podcast, sponsored by Betway, he said:
“As an ex-Arsenal player, I was gutted that City got the point at the end, they got the equalizer. But I was watching it, and I was just thinking what a defensive display this is.”
He also thinks we got rattled. Really?
“They got City rattled. I've not seen it for a long time, City players moaning afterwards about certain things going on in the game, and they’re masters at it with time wasting. Everybody does it, but don't go out there moaning about it, especially after a game like that. It has the needle of our old Arsenal against United games. And I think that what we saw on Sunday will carry on.”
It will be interesting, with them seemingly our main rivals now, if the needle does start to build, I hope so, always makes the atmosphere at these games even more special.
With the pundits pointing at this season being another Manchester City and Arsenal battle for the Premier League title, he did admit “I said I'll take a point last week, all day long, and I've been saying that all week – I'll take a point.”
Adding, “We know how good City are and they're on form, they've won every game, so you're always like, anxious when you're playing City. But we've got a bit about us now. People talked about us having a soft underbelly, that's gone. We've got a steeliness about us now and a belief as well.”
For Manchester City, even if it was an off day, we still got a point against possibly our main title rivals this season and even though we were obviously gunning (get it!?) for a win, it doesn’t always go our way, so at least we held back their bragging rights and sent them home disappointed, grabbing the late equaliser.
Anyway, even without a win, this moment from Erling Haaland, was easily the highlight of the day!
I know many of the pundits are now arguing about it, saying it was ‘cowardly’ or disrespectful, but I’m sure Haaland hadn’t planned it and it is these moments that go down in football history, as opposed to getting in the lead and parking the bus to try to hold on for most of a second half for example!
Now we move on to a trip to Newcastle United, where no doubt once more, the bookies will have us as favourites. And with the form we have started the season in, who would bet against us?
