City Stars Who Could Be Set for Euros Glory

After success in the 2023/24 Premier League season, many of Manchester City’s squad head to the European championship full of confidence. They will be hoping for more silverware with their respective nations this summer.
Here is a look at some of the City players that will be in action at the major tournament, and their chances of lifting the trophy.

Kyle Walker and John Stones Key Part of England’s Defence

England have arguably never had a stronger squad heading into a major tournament than they do this year. Head coach Gareth Southgate will be optimistic his Three Lions can go all the way in Germany.

City duo Kyle Walker and John Stones have now played 155 times between them for England. They are key members of England’s defensive line this summer. They are both likely to be involved in England’s opener against Serbia where they are 2/5 in the bet on Euro 2024 odds to begin their campaign with a victory.

As the 10/3 tournament favourites, the England Euros odds suggest no country has a stronger squad than the Three Lions. Walker and are the experienced members of their defensive line, so their experience is going to be vital, especially in the knockout stages of the competition.

Portuguese Trio Have High Hopes

Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Matheus Nunes are part of a strong Portugal squad this year. Now coached by Roberto Martinez, Portugal will fancy their chances of lifting the trophy, just like they did in the 2016 edition.
Although he remains a key player still at the age of 39, Portugal are not reliant on Cristiano Ronaldo. They have many people who can change a game in the final third of the pitch, including Silva and Nunes.

In Dias, Portugal are fortunate to possess one of the best central defenders at Euro 2024. The four-time Premier League winner was part of his country’s UEFA Nations League triumph against the Netherlands. As he has shown in the Manchester City dressing room, the 27-year-old is also a leader on and off the pitch.

Rodri and De Bruyne Play Vital Roles for Their Teams

Spain and Belgium are two countries that go into Euro 2024 with high expectations. They will be represented by Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne respectively. Those two midfielders were fantastic in the 2023/24 campaign.
Rodri has been described by Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente as being the best number six in world football, and not many City fans would disagree. The 27-year-old was named as the best player at the finals of the UEFA Nations League last year. He is just as important in his defensive midfield role for Spain as he is in Pep Guardiola’s team.

De Bruyne goes into Euro 2024 desperately hoping Belgium’s fortunes can change at a major tournament. The City player has been part of a “golden generation” with his country, but just like England in the 00s, they have not been able to win a trophy.
Belgium will be expected to reach the latter stages of the tournament at the very least. It may prove to be one of De Bruyne’s last chances of winning an international event.
Euro 2024 takes place between the 14th of June and the 14th of July, with 51 matches set to take place at the tournament.
