Midfielder heads to the London Stadium for the remainder of the 2023/24 season
Kalvin Phillips has joined West Ham United on loan until the end of the season, the club have confirmed.
The England international joined the Blues in 2022 from Leeds United for £45m, but has struggled to make an impact at The Etihad.
The midfielder has made 31 appearances for the club, scoring his only goal against Red Star Belgrade in December.
The Hammers will pay his wages for the remainder of the season and have paid a loan fee to City, but it is thought there is no option to make the deal permanent.
Pep Guardiola yesterday expressed his regret that the move hasn't worked out for Phillips.
“In that position we need another thing that sometimes myself struggle a little bit to see him,” said the City manager. “That’s all. The quality is there. That’s why he’s in the national team. Look what he’s done at Leeds, the quality is there.
“I regret more myself than Kalvin. With others no, but with him, and [considering] how he behaved, it’s my responsibility. I have to be here to help the players develop and be better players and suit what we want to do and I was not able to do it.”
