Club maintain their innocence and cite "irrefutable evidence" that will clear their name
Manchester City have been charged with breaking financial rules by the Premier League, it was confirmed yesterday.
The club are accused of more than 100 rule breaches following a four-year investigation, and have been referred to an independent commission.
City responded strongly to the allegations, and are confident that they will prevail again, having had similar charges from UEFA rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2020.
"Manchester City is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with," the club said in a statement.
"The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.
"As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all."
