Will Manchester City retain their Premier League title?

As a Manchester City fan, you would have to be feeling rather good about the club’s chances of retaining the Premier League title in the new season, right?

Indeed, those who are interested in football betting at Goldenbet will have already looked at the odds that have been made available at sites that are not on Gamstop to see what kind of returns they could potentially get, and given the prices that have been made available, it would seem many of the bookies are backing Pep Guardiola’s side to accomplish exactly that.

Of course, fans will be expecting and targeting glory once again next season as we have become accustomed to winning silverware, while many of us will be hoping that the additions to have been made to the squad this summer will be enough to finally land the elusive UEFA Champions League title.

Nonetheless, we wanted to take a look at our chances of winning the Premier League in the 2022/23 season, and suggest what we should be able to expect in the forthcoming campaign.

Why Manchester City have to be considered favourites to win

As fans, we have been treated to some excellent acquisitions in the past and this summer has been no different, even if we can still potentially see other names arrive through the Ethihad Stadium doors in the near future and before the upcoming transfer deadline.

Indeed, many of us have gone delirious with the arrival of Erling Haaland this summer, as he is widely recognized as one of the best players in the sport, and one individual that seems to have a golden touch when it comes down to putting the ball in the back of the net.

Many claimed that Guardiola had needed to replace Sergio Aguero with a striker - something the world-class coach showed was not an immediate necessity - but he has now done so in the perfect way possible with the Norwegian superstar; a player who will want to follow in his father’s footsteps but by also building his own reputation and becoming a legend for the club.

Let’s not forget, we have also seen Kalvin Phillips arrive, which will provide a boost in the defensive midfield department alongside Rodri - who has recently signed a new deal - as the English midfielder replaces Fernandinho.

The loss of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling would hurt a number of Premier League clubs, but with Julian Alvarez also arriving, Guardiola’s side is more than strong enough to deal with those departures.

West Ham United will prove a strong test

While the Citizens has a strong squad available to boast and can be considered the strongest in the Premier League, there is no doubt that the title reign will be tested from the very first whistle of the upcoming campaign.

Naturally, the Premier League champions will always have a target on their back, and West Ham United will be the team looking to execute a shock on the opening day of the season. David Moyes’ side have been impressive in recent campaigns, so it will be a tough game.

However, it is important to remember that we did lose the opening game of last season against Tottenham Hotspur when we started the campaign away from home and still managed to win the title on the final day. The league is not lost in one game, but it is better for everyone if we can go on and acquire the three points from day one.
