Sergio Aguero is available for selection again after a six week lay-off, but David Silva, Vincent Kompany and Wilfried Bony miss out through injury.
“Sergio is fit – he’s ready to come back,” said manager Manuel Pellegrini.
“David continues with some small sprain in his ankle so it’s a risk for him to play. Unfortunately also, Samir Nasri is injured. Bony and Vincent Kompany are also injured.
“One of the merits of this team is not just to depend on one player but of course our team is better with Sergio.”
City's last home game against Liverpool ended in 3-1 victory for the Blues, with goals from Stevan Jovetic (2) and Sergio Aguero. Overall City have won 44 of the 171 games played against Liverpool, with 44 draws and 83 defeats.
Prediction: City 2 Liverpool 1
