Manchester City's struggling season seems to be finishing on a high, as they put in a gritty performance to see off a dogged Tottenham Hotspur side. It was a rare type of performance from Manuel Pellegrini's team, who seemed to ditch their out and out attacking style for a more pragmatic approach.
Once again Sergio Aguero led the line impressively for City, with the brilliant Argentine firing the winner after a wonderful counter attack. It was a wonderful goal, with David Silva picking up yet another assist after a delightful through ball.
Tottenham had a number of chances themselves in the first half, with City making a nervous start. Harry Kane missed two good opportunities, before Ryan Mason fired straight at Joe Hart after springing City's fragile offside trap.
The second half was a much better performance from the Blues, as they exerted greater control over the game with David Silva looking back to his mercurial best. City were also more solid defensively after the break, with Eliaquim Mangala and Aleksandar Kolarov both hugely impressive.
City's best chance of the half fell again to Aguero, who rounded Hugo Lloris after a wonderful one-two with Fernandinho. Unfortunately the Argentine was unable to apply the finish. Spurs themselves had a number of good opportunities, but found Joe Hart in inspired form..
It was an important three points for Manuel Pellegrini's side, who have all but secured a top four finish for next season and ended a run of four successive away defeats.
