Lampard linked with surprise loan move

Midfielder could join Blues on six month deal

City are poised to sign former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard on loan from sister club New York City, according to press reports.

The England international was released by Chelsea this summer, and signed a two year deal with NYCFC. However, the Major League Soccer season doesn't begin until March 2015 and it is thought a loan deal would not only help Lampard maintain his fitness, but also give City useful backup as they prepare to compete for four trophies.

Lampard would be registered for both the Premier League and Champions League, helping the Blues fulfil certain homegrown criteria.

The player is expected at Carrington next week for manager Manuel Pellegrini to assess his fitness.
