Midfielder will join City in a £12m deal
City have signed Porto midfielder Fernando for a fee of £12m, the Portuguese club have confirmed.
The Blues made a joint bid for the player and his team mate Eliaquim Mangala in the January transfer window, but were unable to conclude a deal in time. The Brazilian born midfielder later extended his contract, on the proviso that he would be allowed to join the Blues at the end of the season.
Fernando is City's second incoming transfer of the summer, following Bacary Sagna's arrival at The Etihad, and looks to be an astute signing, strengthening a key area of the squad for a relatively modest fee.
His arrival, however, casts doubts over the futures of Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia at City.
