Blues handed favourable draw in first knock out stage
City will face Schalke 04 in the Champions League Round of 16, following the draw in Nyon on Monday morning. The first leg will take place at the Veltins-Arena on Wednesday 20th February 2019 (8pm), with the return leg to be played in Manchester on Tuesday 12th March 2019.
The Blues comfortably topped Group F with 13 points, and were rewarded with a tie against the team currently 13th in the Bundesliga.
However, Director of Football Txiki Begiristain warned of the danger of underestimating their opponents in the first knock out phase.
“Schalke will be difficult. After a winter break, German clubs are always very dangerous.
“It is always important to finish top of your group because you have the advantage to play the second leg at home.
"German clubs are always very strong. They are box-to-box and energetic."
