Stockport youngster commits long term future to the club
Phil Foden has signed a new five and a half year contract extension that will see him remain at the Etihad until 2024.
The Stockport born youngster has been at the club since the age of eight, and broke into the first team squad during the 2017/18 season with manager Pep Guardiola a huge admirer of the player.
Foden scored twice in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup final against Spain in October 2017, and was named as Player of the Tournament as England went on to lift the trophy.
He has made 23 appearances for the Blues to date, scoring his first goal for the club in the 3-0 Carabao Cup victory against Oxford United earlier this season.
Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said: “We are delighted to have secured Phil for the next five and a half years.
“He is an outstanding talent and he is Manchester City born and bred so this is where he wants to play his football.
“Under Pep and with the players we have here around him, he is in the best place possible to develop as a player.”
On his Instagram account, Foden said: "City since I can remember...Started going to the Etihad with my mum every weekend, singing Blue Moon from the stands like every other fan. I grew up watching and admiring the current team so to now be playing with guys like Vinny and David is crazy and something I smile about every day. Playing for this club means everything. The future is blue.
"None of this could have happened without the support and belief from everyone around me at the club and most importantly my family."
