Fabian Delph is expected to be out for a number of weeks after suffering a knee injury in the defeat at Anfield. Danilo or Oleksandr Zinchenko will deputise in his absence. Vincent Kompany returned to first team training this week, but is unlikely to be risked for the visit of Rafa Benitez's side.
“He [Delph] will be out for a while but we don’t know how long for yet,” said Guardiola.
“[Vincent is] much better. We don’t know right now [if he will be fit to face Newcastle] but hopefully for the next games, he will be ready.
“We decided to start the season with just one full-back. We knew about the problem with Delph but in this kind of situation, we with see the reaction of the players, as it may not be their natural position.
“We are going to discuss many issues about positions.”
City's last home game against Newcastle ended in a 6-1 victory, with goals from Sergio Aguero scoring five times, and Kevin De Bruyne netting the other. Overall City have won 66 of the 176 games played against the Magpies, with 39 draws and 71 defeats.
Predicted line-up: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Danilo, Fernandinho, D Silva, De Bruyne, Sane, Sterling, Aguero
