Statement reveals that midfielder "has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee"
City have confirmed that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee during Sunday's game against Arsenal.
The Spanish international was forced off after 21 minutes of the game, after a relatively innocuous looking incident from a corner.
The midfielder looked visibly distressed and was replaced by Mateo Kovacic, with initial reports suggesting that he may miss the rest of the season.
Pep Guardiola, speaking after the Carabao Cup tie against Watford, revealed some uncertainty about the extent of his injury:
"Still we don’t have the definitive [diagnosis] but he will be out for a long time, a while. But there are some opinions that maybe it will be less than we expected."
A statement on the club website on Wednesday morning read:
"Manchester City FC can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee.
"The injury was sustained during the first half of this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.
"The midfielder travelled to Spain to seek specialist consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester.
"Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis."
