Goals from James McAtee and Aymeric Laporte secure victory against German champions
City defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 at the Japan Nation Stadium in Tokyo yesterday in their latest pre-season friendly.
Goals from James McAtee and a late winner from Aymeric Laporte saw the Blues emerge victorious against their German counterparts.
Wearing their new third kit in front of a sold-out crowd, the Blues made five changes from the side that started against Yokohama F. Marinos on Sunday.
Bayern had the better opportunities in the first half, but City went into the break 1-0 up thanks to a goal from James McAtee. Both teams made a raft of changes at half-time, due to the intense heat in Tokyo, and Pep Guardiola's side dominated the second period. However, Munich equalised against the run of play through Mathys Tel before Laporte sealed the victory in the 81st minute, and Guardiola was pleased with the work-out.
"Two great teams. Every time we lose the ball in the positions, the pace that Bayern have is something incredible. It was a good test. No injuries. Minutes in our legs for the next weeks.
"The result is not important. We know each other quite well. Satisfied for the performance. Thank you Tokyo. Tomorrow we are leaving for Korea and our last game before we go back to Manchester."
City now face Atletico Madrid in Seoul on Sunday, before flying back to Manchester ahead of the season opener against Arsenal at Wembley.
"The group is ready. No injuries - that is good. We are not far away but we are not in our best conditions", said Guadriola.
"We will play the Community Shield not being in our top, top form. This is normal. We rely on the mentality that we have and the personality that we have.
"We have one week in Manchester to prepare for that final and train better than we can here."
