Ex-City defender expecting open game but thinks Guardiola's side will have too much for hosts
Ex-City defender Joleon Lescott has backed the Blues to defeat Liverpool at Anfield this weekend. Jurgen Klopp's side have endured a difficult start to the season, and currently sit tenth in the league, a full 13 points behind City.
However, a 7-1 victory at Ibrox in midweek has helped restore some confidence ahead of the clash, and Lescott is expecting an open, attacking game on Sunday.
Speaking to LiveScore, he said: “Liverpool have had their problems so far this season, but they will still look to go toe-to-toe with champions Manchester City.
“It is the only way Jurgen Klopp’s men know and a more cautious approach at Anfield is out of the question despite their worst start to a Premier League campaign under the German.
“This has been the game to watch in the Premier League in recent years due to both sides’ quality and attacking approach and I believe Sunday will be no different.
“The Reds need a win. They are already 13 points behind City and 14 adrift of league leaders Arsenal, so they need to start bridging that gap.”
Lescott believes that approach could leave Liverpool vulnerable, and is expecting his former side to record a rare win at Anfield:
“Whether that approach pays off for Liverpool remains to be seen. It may allow City’s ruthless stars to exploit them on the counter-attack.
“City are in a great rhythm at the moment. They didn’t find the net in the Champions League on Tuesday but I’d actually say it’s harder for them not to score right now!
“The Reds will put up a fight but I see this one going to form.”
