Title contenders clash at Anfield on New Year's Eve
We’re treated to plenty of Premier League action over the festive period, and New Year’s Eve will play host to a massive Premier League title chase fixture. Manchester City make the trip to Liverpool for their evening clash. Both sides are hot on the heels of table toppers Chelsea and will see this game as a massive three points towards catching the London side at the top of the table.
City’s main issue this season has been their mistakes defensively. John Stones, brought in to the team in the summer, has had a bit of a tough time at the start of his Manchester City career. Stones has taken the brunt of the criticism, but all of the City defence will need to up their game if they are going to catch Chelsea at the top of the season. They will have their work cut out for them to keep the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firminho and Adam Lallana out.
After Philippe Coutinho was injured, most Liverpool fans would have been imagining the worst, especially after losing against Bournemouth and drawing with West Ham at Anfield. However, going forward Liverpool look just as threatening. Adam Lallana, Divock Origi and Sadio Mane are still in top form for the reds. Their main worry, like Man City, is defensively. Loris Karius has come under criticism in recent fixtures after some questionable goalkeeping. A few clean sheets on the bounce will help the keepers confidence, however Man City will be looking to exploit this weakness and put pressure on him throughout the fixture. Betting Tips plus are recommending a Man City win after their stout performance against Arsenal.
Both sides are great going forward, but are lacking a touch defensively. This should make for an interesting clash between the sides and hopefully plenty of action at either end. It’s hard to call which way this fixture is going to go, but the Anfield is never an easy place to get a result. This definitely gives Liverpool the advantage over their opponents.
