Guardiola opts to omit Ivorian midfielder from squad for group stages
Yaya Toure has been left out Manchester City's squad for the group stages of this season's Champions League. The 21 man squad, which was submitted on Friday afternoon, includes new signings Claudio Bravo, John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane and Nolito, but the 33 year old Ivorian midfielder misses out.
Pep Guardiola was always likely to face a conundrum when naming the squad, despite the outgoing transfers ths week of Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony, Joe Hart, Jason Denayer and Eliaquim Mangala. It is now clear that Toure will face a much reduced role in his final season at the club.
