Brazilian midfielder scoops award in mixed month for the Blues
Fernandinho has been voted as the Bluemoon Player of the Month for February 2016. The Brazilian midfielder won 46% of the vote, ahead of Willy Caballero (15%) and Vincent Kompany (11%). It is the third time this season that the player has won the award, having also been named as player of the month in October and November last year.
It was a difficult month for the Blues, with successive league defeats against Leicester and Tottenham followed by a 5-1 drubbing at Stamford Bridge, albeit in extenuating circumstances. However, victories away at Dynamo Kiev and against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup final saw the month end on a high note.
Fernandinho opened the scoring at Wembley early in the second half, before Philipe Countinho's goal sent the match to extra time and penalties. The Brazilian actually missed his spot kick, but Willy Caballero spared his blushes by saving three of Liverpool's attempts to secure the first trophy of the season.
