Vincent Kompany facing further injury anguishPellegrini reveals defender could be out until 'last part' of the season

Vincent Kompany may not play again for City until the "last part" of the season, according to manager Manuel Pellegrini. The Belgian international suffered a reoccurrence of his calf injury just ten minutes into his comeback against Sunderland on Boxing Day.

It was thought at the time that the injury was a relatively minor one, and that Kompany left the field mainly as a precautionary measure. However, Pellegrini's revelation in today's press conference suggests the problem is more serious than first feared.

City have struggled defensively in Kompany's absence, with Saturday's clean sheet at Carrow Road only their second in the last 13 games. However, Pellegrini has ruled out bringing in defensive reinforcements during the January transfer window:

"We have a complete squad in this moment. We have Demichelis, Otamendi, Bacary Sagna can play that position. We have Cameron [Humphreys], a young player that did pre-season with the squad.

"Mangala will return soon, Vincent I hope maybe not so soon but for the last part of the season he will be fit.

"So in this moment we are not thinking about making a change."
