City are without their first choice central midfielders, as both Yaya Toure and Fernandinho serve suspensions for their red cards against CSKA Moscow. Frank Lampard and Fernando are expected to deputise in their absence. David Silva, Edin Dzeko and Aleksandar Kolarov remain absent through injury, stretching City's already reduced 21 man squad to the limit.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini, however, remains bullish about his team's prospects.

"A lot of time, the teams to have played badly in the group have won the Champions League," Pellegrini said.

"We know we must win against Bayern and must have the personality to go and be aggressive from the beginning. This is our last chance to progress.

"As a team we never think chances are gone - in the Premier League and Champions League. Maybe we are in a difficult position. I have trust in these players and sure we are going to play a good game and win the three points."

City's last home game against Bayern ended in a comprehensive 3-1 defeat, with Alvaro Negredo getting City's consolation. Overall City have won 2 of the 5 games played against Bayern, with no draws and 3 defeats.
