Vincent Kompany and Raheem Sterling are back in the squad for City's visit to St James Park, but four first team players have been ruled out. Bacary Sagna and Samir Nasri have joined Gael Clichy and David Silva on the injured list.

City go into the game on a run of four successive victories, but manager Manuel Pellegrini warned his side against complacency.

Pellegrini told reporters: "The team are just focused on what we need to do. We need a Champions League spot for next season, and to focus on Real in the semi final.

"Newcastle are very dangerous, they have good players, St James’ is difficult place to play. They need the points in their survival battle. I hope we continue as we did on Saturday, being aggressive and trying to win from the beginning."

He added: "It’s not depending on what Newcastle can do. We must continue the way we played on Saturday, solid, keeping a clean sheet and scoring goals. If we continue like that it doesn’t matter who we play."

City's last away game at St James Park ended in a 2-0 victory, with David Silva and Sergiuo Aguero netting for City. Overall City have won 65 of the 174 games played against Newcastle, with 38 draws and 71 defeats.
